Booka Shade Releases New Album 'More!' on Get Physical | Music Hall of Williamsburg- May 25 & Movement 2010
With its 11 tracks and 45-minute running time, Booka Shade's new album More! is a complete, self-contained work that is expecting to be judged, not against the latest faddy dancefloor trends, but against the other classic albums. Like Bjork's Debut, Hot Chip's The Warning or even Massive Attack's Blue Lines, it is an album of modish electronics, strong emotions and rich melodies, which is both of and transcends the dancefloor.
Naturally, given that it's been made by two of the men behind the peerless Berlin electronic label Get Physical, More! is intimately bound up with the sounds of contemporary techno. Indeed, after taking up DJing recently, this is probably their most club-inspired work, for years.
In contrast to their previous effort, The Sun & The Neon Light, every track on More! has a functional dance music exoskleton. They all started as minimalist club grooves subsequently fleshed out with the melodies, granular textures and sonic complexity that make the duo so interesting. The album has a fluid, cohesive feel as it evolves and mutates. Like their techno classic, "Body Language", More! offers much in the way of elegant dancefloor design.
Booka Shade will be making an exclusive New York City stop at the Music Hall of Williamsburg on Tuesday, May 25, en route to the Red Bull Music Academy stage at Movement 2010 in Detroit from May 29-31, 2010
