WMC 2010 Countdown: Mr. C

There is no denying that Mr. C is a legend of dance music. Over the span of his 20+ years in the scene he has tried his hand at virtually every aspect of it. Mr.C’s musical career began as an MC in the U.K. As the vicious front man for the hip hop outfit The Shamen, he was responsible for a string of mainstream and club hits during the early 90’s. After that came his successful solo career as a DJ/Producer, as well as club owner. Along with partner Layo Paskin, their clubs The End and AKA Bar provided Londoners with memorable nights for well over a decade. During their tenure, the venues became two of the city’s most legendary dance establishments. His many labels include Plink Plonk, The End Recordings, and Superfreq Recordings, which also is the name of his world famous club night. Mr. C has released countless productions under a variety of aliases for some of the world’s most prestigious techno and house labels including Sexonwax and Hallucination Ltd.

His latest collaborative effort is with New York’s Adultnapper under the Sycophant Slags moniker. Their newly released EP on Poker Flat, “Keep Off” is a trippy slice of underground house. A tight, clean, and superbly produced track, “Keep Off” also marks Mr. C’s return to vocal duties. With the catchy “sky’s the limit” refrain, the track has immediately lifted itself to late night anthem status. The EP also features unique interpretations from renowned acts Reboot and The Wighnomy Brothers. Mr. C has also released his first solo EP in nearly 5 years with ‘Lunar EP’ on Wagon Repair. Lunar EP showcases his diversity with three distinct variations on one common theme. The sunrise perfect “Full Moon”, deep after hours style “Waxing, and peak time “Dark Moon” come together to form a complete representation of the sounds that make up a Mr.C set.

WMC 2010 COUNTDOWN: MR. C

Your WMC Events
Hallucienda, One Night Only...an AM Only Event, Get Lost, Sunday School For Degenerates.

How many years have you been coming to WMC
My 1st time was in 1994, I've missed 5 or 6 since then so I'm kind of part of the furniture.

Biggest change at WMC since you’ve been coming
The music & parties get better each year & each year it feels more & more like a family reunion. I also really like the shift from the beach to Downtown, so much more urban.

Most memorable/craziest WMC experience you’ve had
Sunday School For Degenerates at Pawn Shop 2007 was mental. I was spinning at Superfreq Avalon in LA with Booka Shade live the night before so had to do a mad WMC - LA - WMC all with no sleep & arrived at Pawn Shop an hour before my set. Steve Bug killed it & I took the baton, thoroughly enjoyed my spaced out set & passed the baton on to Cassie who closed. Amazing few hours of madness & degeneracy pursued.

What are your ideas for making the WMC a better conference
Well I never actually get involved in the conference itself, just the parties & there's so many good events I'm not sure how it can be improved. Of course getting into events is always tough with security usually being a little over zealous, so to improve WMC, I'd give all the security a huge dose of LOVE! Lets make 2010 the "Hug a bouncer year". If we're all really nice to them they have to feel the love right?

Favorite place in Miami to eat/drink/chill and why
I love Grill Fish, always have such nice food there. Nikki Beach is pretty cool too.

Favorite Miami hotel
The Delano. Over priced but very cool with nice rooms & great service. I stay more often than not at The Standard which is ideally situated in South Beach & not as noisy as most hotels. This year we're staying in a luxury apartment downtown, walking distance from everywhere I'm spinning.

Artists you’re looking forward to checking out in Miami
Reverse Commuter live, Seth Troxler, Steve Bug & Adultnapper all of whom always do it for me. Looking forward to hearing Butane at Get Lost & dOp live at Sunday School who I've not heard before.

Biggest indulgence in Miami
Do I really have to answer this question.... AGAIN? lol

The best way to cure a Miami hangover
The best cure is prevention. Lots of good food & plenty of water. Antioxidants every day to take the stress off the vital organs, Royal Jelly (which I take religiously every day) which is a hard core immune system builder & after the event, lots of 5HTP.

Best clubbing moment of 2010 so far
Superfreq E'special's 8th anniversary at Paramount in London on February 8th comes a close tie with the madness that was Time To Get Ill in Brooklyn the following week for the Sycophant Slags video launch. I lost everything that weekend (including my dignity).

What’s in store for 2010
I've started Super Disco Freq on the 1st Tuesday each month at the wonderful Short Stop in Echo Park, L.A & I'm psyched about starting quarterly Superfreq events in L.A which we'll do in warehouses or alternative spaces, also with Blkmarket membership in NYC & Spy Bar in Chicago. If they all work out as expected, it'll be a great 1st year of Superfreq residencies in the USA.
