WMC 2010 Countdown: Tom Middleton

Tom Middleton can boast one of the most unique perspectives and careers in dance music. Refusing to confine his talent to one style or sound, Middleton has touched on nearly every form of electronic sounds for close to two decades. He first came on the scene through his partnership with Mark Pritchard as Global Communication, which was responsible for not only the seminal ambient album “76:14”, but also a handful of classic deep-house anthems, most notably “The Way.” From there, Tom’s production discography includes the Jedi Knights, Secret Ingredients, Reload, Mod Wheel, Link and Cosmos. He’s produced and mixed numerous compilations and mix CDs, and dropped a bucket full of remixes that have all become favorites of discerning DJs and music-lovers alike.

WMC 2010 COUNTDOWN: TOM MIDDLETON

Your WMC Events
Friday: One Night Only...an AM Only Event
Saturday: Basic NYC All-Stars @ Beach Plaza Hotel
Sunday: Sunday School For Degenerates, Ice Palace

How many years have you been coming to WMC
Started 10 years ago but haven't been for 5 years having spent the last few every year in Australia.

Biggest change at WMC since you’ve been coming
Decrease in interest and physical attendance of the actual conference with the focus being on the parties!

Most memorable/craziest WMC experience you’ve had?
Quite a few of those..eek..where do you start!? Spun with Pete Tong at Opium Garden dressed in a full Jedi outfit, dropping loads of fresh bootlegs and mash ups to an unsuspecting audience who went completely nuts…then carrying on partying until the afternoon the next day at Tenaglia's Space session..still dressed as Obi Wan Kenobi.

What are your ideas for making the WMC a better conference
Everyone in fancy dress! more seriously, how about less parties, more focus on the panels and sensible door and drinks pricing…everywhere in SoBe cranks up the prices during WMC which is pretty sneaky.

Favorite place in Miami to eat/drink/chill and why
Coral Gables Venetian Pool..away from the SoBe mayhem, a little tropical paradise, featuring one of the largest swimming pools in the world.

Favorite Miami hotel
Delano..I'm a sucker for the way Starck plays with interior and exteriors, his use of disproportional and unexpected scale, like a trip through Alice's Wonderland.

Artists you’re looking forward to checking out in Miami
Mostly US House DJ's as I don't get to hear them that often. Particularly the Detroit party Carl Craig, Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson, and other heroes of mine such as Kenny Dope, Armand Van Helden, Sneak, Farina, IZ and Carter.

Best clubbing moment of 2010 so far
Kicking off by taking a boat to Sheik Hassan's Island called Al Dar in Bahrain, and rocking the crowd for 3 hours on the beach.

What’s in store for 2010
New tunes galore..monster club anthems backed with deep underground house and tech tracks to keep a nice balance..hold tight for "10:10" coming soon
