#1Basic NYC presents Misstress Barbara @ Sullivan Room - Saturday, July 18th
One of electronic music’s most dynamic artists, the Candian queen of techno MISSTRESS BARBARA makes her Basic NYC debut this Saturday, July 18th. Returning to Sullivan Room for the first time in several years, Barbara arrives to New York celebrating the release of her startling new artist album “I’m No Human.” This will be an intimate night of cutting-edge music with this longtime purveyor of quality, sophisticated dancefloor grooves.
Long recognized for her outstanding DJing skills, Barbara’s “I’m No Human” album is causing a stir north of the border. The 12-track album features the Misstress herself displaying her vocals, songwriting and electronic production skills, showcasing a new element to her talent. Some of the standout tracks include her haunting cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Dance Me to the End of Love”, which has been supported by a huge range of DJs; her collaboration with Canada’s Sam Roberts “I’m Running” hit the top spot of English songs at Montreal’s CKOI FM radio. She just performed a sold-out show at Montreal’s esteemed 2009 International Jazz festival, with an international touring schedule taking her around the world each and every weekend.
The album release represents a new phase in Barbara’s career, but it’s through her DJing that she has built her reputation as an icon. An early proponent of rugged, percussive techno, Barbara’s sound earned her legions of fans throughout the world, with regular appearances at Europe’s most prestigious clubs and festivals cementing her place among the leaders of electronic music. As a producer, her work has appeared on esteemed labels as varied as John Digweed’s Bedrock imprint, and James Holden’s Border Community, as well as her own Iturnem. Her ability to get a dancefloor energized is second to none, and we’re excited to have her making her Basic NYC debut at this party.
Also appearing on the night will be Basic NYC residents Sleepy & Boo, with KGB resident Niki McNally and NYC’s Cylo Arias on the lineup as well. Expect the unexpected from the trailblazing Misstress Barbara in her Sullivan Room return.
